SACRAMENTO, CA – California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) today issued the following statement in response to Senate passage of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
Statement from Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, EnviroVoters:
“The Inflation Reduction Act is a historic down payment towards tackling the climate crisis and addressing the greatest challenge of our time. We are excited and hopeful that federal action on climate change is finally moving forward. It is fitting that our Vice President from California was the deciding vote on the first climate bill the federal government has ever passed.
“If the Inflation Reduction Act becomes law, it will achieve 80% of President Biden’s goal to reduce U.S. emissions to 50% of 2005 levels by 2030, but it will take continued federal action complemented by state climate leadership to fully reach this critical climate target. This is a historic moment, and we need to build on it until our climate challenge is solved. We can do this.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
