SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to Assembly results ahead of the May 29th House of Origin deadline.
Statement from Shannon Olivieri Hovis, Chief Strategy Officer, California Environmental Voters:
“There are a handful of real wins coming out of the Assembly worth celebrating today, especially on forest management and wildfire resilience, Indigenous water rights, and our transition to cleaner, more affordable energy. Those victories matter, but the Assembly is failing to act with the urgency that this moment and California voters demand. Too many bills were stalled in committee, others only made it through after being watered down, and this year’s most significant emissions reductions bill (AB 1777) came up short. The Assembly is leading the charge to weaken Cap-and-Invest, which will cut billions of dollars in community investments to benefit Big Oil. The stark contrast between the Senate and Assembly is the difference between holding the line for Californians and caving to corporate polluter influence. Bold action is critical to addressing the affordability crisis Californians are facing and the Assembly needs to rise to the occasion.”
