FRESNO, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to the Fresno County Planning Commission voting unanimously to grant CEMEX another year of mining, following a 3 year extension granted in 2023 to update their environmental impact report (EIR).
Statement from Pa Houa Lee, Central Valley Regional Organizer, California Environmental Voters:
“CEMEX was already given three extra years to complete its environmental review, and Fresno continues to allow new ways to accommodate a multinational corporation with a long history of causing environmental damage and regulatory evasion locally and worldwide. Every delay sends the same message: corporate convenience matters more than community health. The people of Fresno deserve clean water, sustainable jobs, healthy neighborhoods, and leaders willing to put them ahead of a corporate polluter’s bottom line.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
