LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to Xavier Becerra doubling down on a maximum campaign contribution of $39,200 from Chevron.
Statement from Matt Abularach-Macias, Political and Organizing Director, California Environmental Voters:
“Becerra is wrong. Big Oil is absolutely the bad guy. Big Oil knew their products would cause devastating impacts to our health, economic, and physical safety decades ago, and they decided to lie about it and continue their destructive, deadly business practices. Corporate polluters and oil money are responsible for the same MAGA agenda that has resulted in the war in Iran. Their corporate greed is creating surges in gas and energy prices at a time when Californians are hurting. They are polluting our air and water and destroying our public lands.
Californians are clear about this, with poll after poll showing that unfavorabilities for oil companies and corporate polluters consistently over 70%. Voters are demanding a Governor who is not influenced by corporate special interests, because they know that it’s corporate polluters driving the affordability crisis and skyrocketeding energy, insurance, gas, grocery, water bills and more.
Becerra has led on important initiatives in the past and track records are important, but California needs a Governor with plans and commitments to hold corporations accountable and advance resilience, clean, affordable energy, clean air and water, access to nature.”
