SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement on AB 126 making it out of the Legislature. Formerly AB 241, the bill will reauthorize clean air programs, including the Clean Transportation Program which provides up to $100M per year in critical investments that lower emissions, clean the air we breathe, and transition Californians to electric transportation. The bill is now on the Governor’s desk for signature.

Statement from Melisa Romero, Senior Legislative Manager, California Environmental Voters:

“Emissions from our transportation sector are a major source of pollution that needs our leaders’ focus, so we’re proud that Governor Newsom, Speaker Rivas, and Pro Tem Atkins stood strong in our fight for cleaner air and clean transportation. Up against the most resourced interests in our state, they recognize that we can’t afford to scale back investments when California is pummeled with new climate impacts every season.

With 50% of this funding dedicated to disadvantaged and low-income communities, AB 126 addresses the need for equity to quickly and effectively transition what’s being driven on the road. California has some of the most ambitious climate goals in the world but we can’t meet them without prioritizing frontline communities.

We’re grateful for Assemblymember Reyes and Senator Gonzalez’s vision and tenacity in this fight and look forward to the reauthorization of the Clean Transportation Program.”
