OAKLAND, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to escalating family violence from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), resulting in the execution of Alex Pretti on Jan. 24, just weeks after Renée Good on Jan. 7, and after months of terrorizing communities across California and the U.S.
Statement from Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, California Environmental Voters:
“The climate justice movement and the migrant justice movement are fighting the same fight against systems of greed and power that profit from exploitation. The killings and kidnappings in Minnesota and across the country are part of a broader assault on democracy itself, where cruelty is normalized, rights are stripped away, and public institutions are weaponized against the most vulnerable. We are witnessing the brutalization of innocent people while the forces responsible for the devastation of communities continue to evade accountability and are empowered to commit even more violence. These crises are connected, the harm is intentional, and our movements will not be divided. We stand in unwavering solidarity with the families and communities mourning and enduring brutality at the hands of our own federal government.
We call on California’s bipartisan Congressional delegation to hold the Department of Homeland Security accountable and stand strong in holding up funding for more injustice.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
