SB 601 – Assembly Judiciary

The Right to Clean Water Act

In 2023, the Supreme Court rolled back Clean Water Act protections by ruling that some waterways, like wetlands, estuaries, seasonal rivers, and streams, are not protected under federal law. As the Trump Administration continues to weaken federal clean water protections, it's critical for California to regulate our own water pollution. This bill would have restored Clean Water Act protections on a state level to prevent polluters from discharging toxic waste in these waters.
